Since our grand opening on November 3, 2021, we’ve been asked many times over our story of how and why we opened a wine bar. After being open for a couple of months and a bit of time to breathe, I decided what better time to tell our story than now…
My husband and I relocated to Spring, Texas in the Fall of 2019 from Ohio. I spent the fall and winter months getting settled into the area and our home set up. During this time, I also joined a women’s bible study at a local church as an opportunity to meet new people. I met Alicia at one of the bible study sessions and our friendship continued as we attended the bible study program and lunch with the ladies of the group.
Then, Covid hit and shut us down. As we entered the Summer of 2020, Alicia and I would get together and go out to lunch from time to time. Alicia was at a crossroads in her career and had taken a sabbatical from work to “regroup.” She had worked in utilities as a project manager for many years. I had not worked in over a year due to our move. In addition, I did not have it in my heart to get back into real estate following a long career in Ohio. Alicia, having been an entrepreneur (owned two companies in prior years) and still possessing that entrepreneurial spirit, was considering going back into business for herself. On one of our afternoon outings, we sat in a local wine bar discussing our futures. Almost in unison, we looked at each other and said, “We could do this…let’s open a wine bar.”
And the rest is history, as they say. We spent over a year planning, securing a location, permitting, and building-out to be at the point we are now. We have learned quite a bit throughout this process with many challenges. Who knows, maybe there is a book to write in my future? I can say it’s been rewarding, and I enjoy every day I walk into The Classy Cork. One of the most rewarding aspects is meeting new friends that I can call my Classy Cork family.
A special thank you to Alicia for her continued friendship and for the opportunity to make The Classy Cork happen!
